Magnet Traders! In case you missed the news – the names of our chosen Community Champions has finally been announced!
And the overall winner, scooping a £2000 prize and a special cake baked and presented by The Great British Bake Off runner-up Richard Burr, is…
Dexter’s Light, which was nominated by the Macclesfield store, was originally set up in memory of Dexter Cook, who passed away suddenly May 30th 2014 at the tender age of one.
The group thought it would be a fitting tribute to Dexter’s memory to try and raise funds for a portable sensory room.
The aim was to raise £15,000 for the equipment, which could be used anywhere in the North West region and loaned free of charge to community groups or settings.
Additional funds were needed to ensure Dexter’s Light had adequate public liability insurance and that maintenance could take place for the upkeep of the equipment.
Dexter’s dad James Cook said: “Winning the Magnet trade Kitchen community champions award has now made the difference. The equipment is ordered and will be delivered just in time for what would have been Dexter’s second birthday. It quite literally is the icing on the cake and we hope that the cake produced can have two candles on it to show Dexter that this really is all for him and keeping his memory alive.”
Thank you to every who voted for Dexter’s Light. Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about the regional winners!
